Hi Alex,

It must make it really frustrating for your wife and you. To be honest, we've never had a problem getting in and out of Italy even though V is black. But, then, we both have EU passports and, getting mistaken for a famous footballer (here) often helps :-)

I remember my own experiences in Switzerland. Being shouted at in Swiss German by a man twice my age who spoke few English words.

Being shouted out, because for some reason, raising your voice helps the translation? I remember he used to get very impatient when I couldn't understand what he was saying. Not unlike some British person trying to explain something to an Eastern European.

It's an interesting experience to be on the other end of the immigrant table.

My wife got held up in Heathrow again last night. An hour this time, even though she actually has a Visa now, it seems that the black mark on her computer record remains there despite being told 3 times it's been removed.

The best part is it's only at Heathrow where they stop her. Other borders (eg. ferries) check the record, then check her Visa, are able to work it out and let us through.

We've come to the conclusion that staff at Heathrow (it was T5 as well) from top to bottom range from simpletons to complete morons. Needless to say, we're going to avoid it from now on at all costs.
