although why you’re leaving when the weather has just become perfect, I don’t think I’ll ever understand

Ah ah ah. You made me laugh. You'll never understand because you're English while here we have enough of the sun. Going in fact to Canada to look for COLD (and polar bears).

Even more tanned than when we met? Amazing. Your secret desire to look Brazilian, probably, ciao!

Hi Giovanni,
Yes, almost certainly the killing was carried out for a reason. There's the 250 staff reduction and the (probable) opening of the Sun on Sunday - without the need to re-employ those 250, for one reason.

Yes, I can see what you mean about it being good for learning the slang without any of the highbrow stuff :-)

Enjoy Canada (although why you're leaving when the weather has just become perfect, I don't think I'll ever understand) - and the summer is great so far. 4 weekends in Carrara and I'm looking a little tanned :-)

Speak to you in a few weeks.
Ciao

Dear Andy,

I was impressed by the swiftness: the paper has been dispatched by Murdoch in one day and ALL people instantly fired.

I remember that I read The News Of The World in the 1960’s, once in a while. I was a teenager. A lot of British slang was in it, & gossip, and a good introduction, I thought, to English middle & lower class culture. It was fun. I used to buy it in the 2 big newspaper stands in Via Veneto (so celebrated in the Roman ‘dolce vita’ souvenirs), the only ones in those days to have foreign stuff (maybe the railway station Termini stands also, but I don’t remember).

The 'killing' was probably carried out for some good reason.

Btw Andy, I am leaving for Canadian Quebec on the 13th of July. I wish, to you and to F, a very happy summer!

Talk to you when I come back at the end of July!
