Namely because they are more relaxed about smoking in law, but not in attitude. I spent a few days there last year and apart from the times I was at the conference, whenever I smoked people looked at me aghast. I was even tutted by the maid one day whilst she tidied my room, which irritated me to the point of getting the ashtray and saying “this is a smoking room” and she looked daggers at me and gave a “hmph!”

To quote the Irish comedian Ed Byrne – “I’ve considered stopping smoking, but then I thought ‘no, I’m not a quitter’ “
