I did wonder if he had (sort of) sprained his ankle – but no, the area (when the vet checked) was swollen and he said he could see the hole made by the ‘hair’ (I don’t know what it’s called really. It’s not a ‘hair’ exactly but that thin strand you find on wheat seeds, etc – so stronger than hair – and I have heard of this problem before) and that was the area that really hurt him. I’m going to see what it is like tonight and go from there!
It is a great festival and I’ve been going for about 6 or 7 years, so I shall miss it in both ways. But F is not really a literary person (nor was V but V went for different reasons), so it was always going to be a bit ‘touch and go’. Still, let’s hope gail is right and it will still be waiting for me next year :-)

the limping might be related also to spine problems. I didn’t get if he has an infection or not (I suppose: no hairs no infection?).
Big boy had (and sometimes has) the same but it seems as though the problem is the vertebral column.
However the only way to find out what he has is an MRI and it might not be the better option as it entails anesthesia.
(my family calls me “the doctor”, guess why?!).
I would suggest to get a different opinion. I wouldn’t go on with the treatment if it’s getting worse.

As for Mantova: I love Festivaletteratura, it is a great festival.
