Enlgish Teacher (ESL)

>My name is Andy.

I am a qualified Teacher of English as a second language.

I currently live and work in Milan, Italy.

I teach all ages and types of student, however, I specialise in Business English as I have over 20 years experience in business in the UK, particularly in the areas of manufacturing, computers and law.

I like to use authentic material in the classroom including newspapers, television news, films and articles from the internet. I also use books including International Express and Headstart.

I have extensive knowledge of using net based programmes as an aid to teaching, allowing the students to listen to authentic English speakers in their own time or as homework.

  2. Hello Andy.

I am an ESL teacher too. I have TEFL qualifications and my BA degree is in History.
I have recently applied for a job in a primary school in Milan (Montessori) and I am waiting to see what they will say.
I wonder if 2400 Euro is a good salary. Accommodation will be provided. How about electricity and food though? I don’t like going out a lot but if the cost of living is high, I worry that I may not be able to save anything. Also, in your opinion are foreign people generally accepted in Milan? I’ve heard there is some racism.
I would appreciate it if you could reply because I may have other job offers too.
    Have a good day
    Maria

    • Hi Maria,
Yes, for Italy, 2400 is good especially as accomodation is provided (free, I suppose). It is quite expensive to live here but there are things you can do to cut the cost – even if you go out – like, for example, going for apperitivos, having one drink and helping yourself to plenty of food – you just have to pick the right bars.
Yes, there is some racism. It depends where you’re from, I think. Generally, people don’t seem to like different skin colours or Esatern Europeans..
      Good luck with the job.
