Self-sufficient, together, alone – the Team.

We don’t speak much, V & I. I mean that, obviously we do speak, but we don’t really TALK that often. As with most relationships over time, there seems no time to just sit down and talk to each other.

In fact, one of the more disturbing things I’ve noticed is that, sometimes, when V is telling me something, I’m not actually listening and then, if I’m asked a question, I have to ask for a repetition of what has been said. I know that works the other way around, too, as the same thing happens. I guess it’s normal.

However, last night, when both of us had had fairly lousy and very long day at work, I suggested we went out for a pizza, which we did. And we just sat there, talking about stuff, listening to each other because there were no distractions. It was so nice. I wish we could do this more often. V makes me laugh, makes me feel good.

We bitched about work; told funny stories about people and things that have happened; told serious stories; talked about stuff that, normally we don’t have time for.

And I was reminded of it this morning when we both had to get up so early (work again) and barely spoke more than two sentences to each other. And I thought, last night reminds me of why I love V so much.

We often say that, really, we are quite happy with ourselves, I mean, together, alone. We are quite ‘self-sufficient’. Obviously we like to have friends; to spend time with people; to do things but, at the end of it all, that’s nothing compared to how we can be with just the two of us.

I think it’s great that we (I’m guessing V would agree with me) can still have that after so long. And although things change and have changed (i.e. the ‘not listening really when the other is talking’), we still do have the things that make it all work. We are a team and, generally, it works quite well.
