It’s never easy. It never was.

The video below gives you some idea of what it’s like to ‘come out’. At one point towards the end he says that it had taken him four hours to make the call.

And you don’t do it once – but every time you ‘come out’ to someone. OK, so it gets easier over time but, unless you’ve done it, I don’t think you can ever realise how hard it is.

    • Apparently, he did it to help other people in a similar situation. I can understand that and I think it’s very brave (or stupid, maybe?).
I’m afraid I have never been like that – standing up and flag waving.

  1. uhm, I don’t know if it’s brave.
I have mixed feelings about it. If, on the one hand, he was brave, on the other it seems too private to me to put online. Not to mention that his dad was involved too.

However, I do write about personal stuff in my blog.

    ;)

    • Yes, I can see where you’re coming from, Lola. But oh how I wish we had had the Internet when I was in my early twenties and I could have found something like this. It would have really helped.

With my first partner, we really had no idea that there were any places for us to go. Eventually we made friends with a couple who lived in a flat nearby. they showed us that there was a whole new world out there – places to go, people we could meet where we could be ourselves.

It is private but, apparently, he did this as a YouTube channel, and his intention was for others who were unsure about how or when to come out, to feel more secure that they a) weren’t alone and b) that other people had the same problem with coming out. From that point of view, it was brave. I do hope he got his Dad’s permission first! But his Dad’s reaction says that it’s OK.

      You do ;-)
