It’s been a little while since I last wrote anything. So what’s been happening? Well, the first thing is that I am back at work – which is one of the reasons I haven’t been writing. I’ve been busy.
V is off tomorrow (21st) to Turin for his new (but temporary) job. He is working for NBC on their coverage of the Olympics. Should be interesting and he is hoping for something else to ‘follow on’ from it. He’s still writing his column for QS (pronounced ‘queue essay’) which is a sports paper in Italy. Obviously, he’s not writing about sport – but about fashion in sport.
At the moment I am doing 5 courses. 4 for Bull Italia and 1 for a small company called Vignati (pronounced ‘vinyatee’). It looks like I will be getting another 2 courses for another company, 1 of which is a continuation from the course that finished at the end of November and the other is a new class of beginners. This is due to start a week on Friday, so I will be busier still.
At the moment the weather is cold (always below freezing at night and, sometimes it only gets up to a few degrees above freezing during the day), but it doesn’t seem as cold as the UK used to be. The main reason, I’ve decided, is the lack of wind. Generally, we don’t get any. The reason? We’re surrounded on three sides by mountains, so the whole of the Lombardy plain is protected. There is a massive downside to this which is the pollution. We don’t get any wind to clear it and, generally, we get a lot less rain, which would also clear it. So, most weekends from January to March there is a block on traffic entering the city. Which makes the city great to walk around.
On a separate note, I bought a Skype telephone the other day. I’ve been meaning to sort it out for months, but just haven’t got round to it. But I was ordering some ink cartridges the other day and they had a special offer on the telephone, so I decided to go for it. Now all I have to do is download the software and we’re away. Now that I’ve thought about it, I shall do it now and then I can put the number? in this blog.
Been away from the writing of the blog to set up Skype with my new Skype phone. Haven’t had a call (yet) from anyone, so I don’t know that it’s working – but, have decided not to have a proper phone number (until I know that I’m happy with it) so you have to have Skype too if you want to call me. The advantage is, that to Skype me/us is free.
