The rules of engagement

So, are they engaged, or not? I really don’t know. F was sporting a very nice diamond engagement ring – but on the third finger of her right hand!

We just couldn’t quite get a straight answer, particularly from A. They implied that, once an actual date had been set for the wedding the ring would be moved to the left hand. This was just a sort of half-commitment.

And, certainly, for A, this is a half-commitment. He was reluctant to say if he actually was engaged or not. He can be very frustrating, often. He did imply that this was the right thing as ‘you never know with this sort of thing and it could be that they split up’!

Hmm. So, aside from the ring then, nothing has changed.

But, I have checked with someone else this morning and it seems that it is quite normal for the engagement ring to be on the right hand.

There we are, two peoples who are in the same continent, with the same type of religion, but with subtle differences.

Anyway, we were kind of happy for F who has been pushing for this for some time. Let’s hope A can get some sort of backbone and actually make the commitment.
