Dino gets me free beer: Eat shit and (hopefully) don’t die!

Yes, I know, most of the posts these days have something about Dino in them. Sorry. I guess it’s like having a new baby.

Last night, when I got home from work, I took Rufus and Dino out for a short walk as it is now incredibly hot here. As I type this (half seven at night) it says, on the thermometer on the balcony, that it is currently 37 degrees. This morning, going to work at 7.30, the temperature was about 29 degrees. I am not complaining but the dogs find it all a bit much. But a short walk was needed so I had to do it.

Later, at about 9.30, I took them out again to the park. When we got there there seemed few people around. When we got the big, unfenced dog area, I saw one person with a dog. Dino saw that, further away in the gloom, were people sitting on the ground with other dogs and raced towards them. I followed more slowly. As I approached I could hear “Dino” being called. So, it was obviously people (and dogs) we had met before.

When I got to the group, they offered me a beer which, given the warm weather, I was happy to take. We had a pleasant time. Apparently they seem to do this most nights in the summer. Sounds like a good plan to me. So, cheers Dino.

On the other hand, when I had arrived home, I found no pooh at all. Well, that’s not quite true. There was some small, hardened (by the heat) crumbs (for want of a better word). I once caught Dino eating his own and stopped him, of course. Since them, once or twice, I had a suspicion but this time there was no doubt. He does eat (some of) his own shit.

Hmmm. Lovely. If anyone has any ideas how to stop him doing this, I would love to know, please.

When I told V later, he said that he shouldn’t be doing that. I replied that I knew this but short of telepathically telling him to stop whilst I am at work, there wasn’t much that I could do.

In theory things should start to return to some semblance of normality from now on, so I hope to be writing more here – and about other things aside from Dino!

Well (still being out of context I am afraid), I have finally replied to your long comment on UK and Europe.

    PS
You write: “I came here to find the passion – and here, it’s all around me – but still it doesn’t really touch me!”. Wonder if you finding the Roman passion instead of the Milanese one would have made any difference lol.
You UK guys are really incredible (in a nice way) and probably will never change. I read that, during the times of the Raj, the English officers, even when walking in the jungle, they stopped at 5 o’clock and had hot tea prepared for them, right there, in the jungle, with 45 degrees of heat! Amazing. Really.
    ;-)

  2. Hi MoR,

Probably not that different – the beer was not really ice-cold!

I only have a few moments now but will look at your reply later today or tomorrow.

I have heard the same (about the tea). I suppose we (the people from the UK) are strange in that way. There are things we like and we stick to them no matter what happens or where we are. It has its advantages and disadvantages, of course.

Brunch in the Navigli calls ………

  3. And, brunch was good as was the walk round the monthly Antiques Market there. The weather was perfect (although too hot for the Milanese that we were with, of course :-) )

  4. PS
Now I remember I heard that ‘tea in the Indian jungle’ thing on an old BBC radio programme about the Raj. It was narrated by an old Indian man who seemed amused by this recollection while he was telling it.

  5. Hi MoR,

Yes, I love this heat. My colleagues at work complain (as do most people) but this is far better than the rain and cold.

I was told, many years ago, that a flask of hot tea was the ideal thing to take when out on safari in Africa (although I’ve never been to try it out). It was said to be better than a cold drink!

  6. Yes, I seem to remember that as the reasoning behind it. However, given the current heat in Milan, I, myself, prefer a nice cold beer . . . . . . . :-)
