Well, it’s been a few days since my last post and a few things have been happening.

UK Bank Holiday weather and the Hay Festival, Confirmation, Hot Sweaty Priest
So, it’s Bank Holiday in the UK with cold, wet weather – there’s a surprise! If it’s any consolation to you, we too have colder and very, very wet weather as I write this. The difference is that it is not a Bank Holiday weekend so I am at work.
Anti-Hay Festival?
For the first time, as I’m not actually there, I’m reading about the Hay Festival and there’s both negative and positive. But I am amazed by the vitriol expounded by some bloggers.
Solution to cockroaches, Pirates, burgers and Hay (of course)
N was telling me last night about her successful cockroach killing secret weapon. It seems that they have had a couple of them in her flat and it’s not just her apartment, but the whole building. The landlady gave her some bait to put down, which she duly did and then she saw the cockroach come along, dance for a while around the bait and then scamper off!
Happy 20th Birthday to the Hay Festival
Well, today is the start of the 20th Hay Festival. I looked on the website as I was thinking of S and suddenly, I really miss the Festival. We won’t be going at all and this will be the first time in over 10 years that we won’t be there, in any role, punters, debenture holders or box office staff.
Cool air at last and other things
Finally, as the temperature had reached a whopping 32 degrees C, the air conditioning has been switched on! Hurrah!
Visitors, appreciating classical music in spite of being uncomfortable, a vision in purple
I’ve noticed that one of my regular visitors, recently, is from Oregon in the US. It’s probably not soon enough, but welcome. Nice to see you and, may I point out, that this entry is really for you as you are keep returning, probably looking for a new post.
A lovely day yesterday, an op tomorrow and the 20th anniversary of the Festival
Well, thanks V, for a really lovely birthday yesterday. The weather was glorious. We went to the Navigli and had brunch with some friends and then strolled around the antiques market. He also bought me some really good presents.
All in all, fantastic and exactly how a birthday should be – perfect.
I am currently thinking about S, who goes to have a knee operation tomorrow. At least, one hopes, it will be the cure and stop the excruciating pain.
Unfortunately, especially as it’s their 20th year, it looks like we won’t be going to the Hay Festival this year. And the programme looks good. A lot of the regular people and, as usual, some interesting names and events.
Ah well, who knows for next year?
Again, this year, there’s the Hay Fringe Festival run by M. Well done, M. I hope it goes well for you.
Writing on Saturday and posting on Sunday
I just looked at the blog and the temperature here is 24 degrees. It’s wonderful. There is a slight breeze, unusually for Milan, which makes it very, very pleasant.
My mood, my books, a list of strange things about Italy/Italians
My mood is like the weather, sombre and grey. Spring? Where the hell is it? Continue reading
